A 17-year-old was found dead Sunday after police responded to a report of shots fired in Marietta about 5:48 a.m.
The shooting was reported at 790 Wilson Circle, Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy said. The victim was identified as Miles Sanders.
The handgun used was taken by investigators as evidence, McPhilamy said.
Neighbors told Channel 2 Action News the teenager killed wanted to become an engineer and had enrolled in college prep classes this year.
“I was just crying when I heard about it, I was heartbroken,” Stephanie Wilson said.
Wilson said she didn't think Saturday night would be the last time she would see him alive.
“He was a very intelligent young man, and he's just like a son to me, and I’m going to miss very, very, very much,” Wilson said.
Neighbors said they will rally behind the teenager's grieving loved ones.
“His mom, his sister and his girlfriend, everybody trying to keep strong and keep the faith that’s all,” Wilson said.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact the Marietta Police Department tip line (770) 794-6990.
