A child was flown to an Atlanta hospital Tuesday evening after being hit by a car on Birch Street in Porterdale, police said.

Authorities in Newton County were notified of the crash via 911 about 5:30 p.m.

The Georgia State Patrol is performing a re-creation of the crash, Porterdale Police Chief Jason Cripps said. The driver stayed on the scene.
