The Johns Creek City Council continues its exploration of shedding some of the expense from using a consulting firm to supply most of its employees.

At a special work session held Friday in Norcross, the council discussed ways it may identify which department workers the city can supply and which require the technical expertise supplied by CH2MHILL.

The consulting firm supplies about 95 percent of the cities 108-member workforce. The city's current contract pays CH2MHILL about $17.8 million, a decline of $1.8 million from 2009.

City Manager John Kachmar said Friday's meeting was part of an ongoing process to bring expenses more in line with a sustainable arrangement for expert services. Negotiations for the 2011 contract with CH2MHILL are continuing, he said.

Recommendations from Friday's meeting will be discussed at Monday's City Council meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
