The Johns Creek City Council has approved mutual aid agreements to provide police officers to assist Atlanta and MARTA police if called upon for the Super Bowl and other situations.

Each agreement “establishes policies and procedures to be followed when a request for assistance is made by either party for either emergency or non-emergency situations,” according to a staff report to the council.

When contacted, the police chief will assess resources and provide personnel, equipment and specialized units “to the extent possible without jeopardizing primary services to its own community,” staff said.

Each department will be responsible for its own employees’ pay or injuries incurred during a mutual aid situation. No liability is imposed if a city fails to respond.

The Super Bowl and related events will last 10 days, Jan. 25-Feb. 3, Atlanta police have said.
