No injuries were reported Thursday when a roof collapsed at a Gwinnett County nursing home. All 109 residents of the facility were being moved to other facilities Thursday afternoon.

The roof in the dining area at the Golden Living Center-Medical Arts on Scenic Highway near Lawrenceville collapsed shortly before 10 a.m., according to Ketrina O'Kelly, the administrative assistant at the facility.

"Everyone is fine," O'Kelly told the AJC. She said crews were in the process of replacing the entire roof of the facility when the collapse occurred.

Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said none of the facility's residents were in the dining hall when the roof collapsed.

“We’re fortunate there were no injuries,” Rutledge told the AJC. “The collapse occurred as construction work was being done over the dining area. We’re told that later on in the day, there could have been activities going on in that dining area.”

Rutledge said the residents were being transported in groups to other facilities Thursday afternoon by school buses, ambulances and vans. Many of the residents will be moved other Golden Living facilities, he said.
