A dozen people were injured late Thursday morning when a prisoner transport bus overturned on I-16 in middle Georgia.
The crash happened about 10:30 a.m. near Mile Marker 30 in Twiggs County southeast of Macon.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright told the AJC that the state Department of Corrections bus was eastbound on I-16 "when a passenger car cut in front of the bus, causing the driver to take evasive action."
He said the bus rolled over onto its side, coming to rest off the right side of the roadway.
"There were 11 prisoners on the bus and they, along with the assistant transport officer on the bus, have been transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia to be checked," Wright said. "The injuries are not life-threatening."
Wright said the bus driver was not injured.
