2 injured when go-kart hits SUV
A woman was critically injured Sunday afternoon when the motorized go-kart she was on ran a stop sign and hit an SUV.
The 24-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was the passenger on a go-kart driven by John Thomas, Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos told the AJC. She sustained severe head trauma in the wreck, police said.
Thomas, 24, was driving westbound on Proctor Street in northwest Atlanta when he apparently ran the stop sign at the intersection with Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, Campos said. Thomas drove into the passenger side of Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Marcus Raines.
Both Thomas and the female passenger, of Atlanta, were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Thomas was listed in stable condition with a broken leg and ankle, police said.
Thomas is expected to face charges.
It is illegal to drive motorized go-karts on city streets, Campos said.
