A popular IHOP is closed for good after failing its most recent health inspection.
Customers of the location on Greenbriar Parkway in Southwest Atlanta said they were surprised by the news.
“To know that, that's mind blowing. They (are) usually packed,” said customer Andre Askew.
The health inspector noted 20 violations in the inspection report and every violation was a new violation all adding up to a 66.
One of the violations that led to the failing score was molded food, including limes and lettuce, according to the report.
Other violations included dishes not being sanitized, observed sausage on stove at cookline not held hot enough and observed expired food.
Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge went to the restaurant at Greenbriar Mall and found the door locked with a sign that read, “Temporarily closed for renovation. Sorry for any inconvenience.” Sbarge didn’t see any evidence of a renovation going on.
Sbarge contacted IHOP’s corporate office in California.
In a statement, an IHOP corporate spokesperson said the owner of that specific location is no longer an IHOP franchisee.
The spokesperson wrote, “For 57 years, IHOP and our franchisees have held themselves to a high standard: providing our guests the great food and restaurant environment they have come to expect, and that we feel they deserve. Anything less is unacceptable."
The company went on to say that the Greenbriar restaurant has been closed permanently. The company is encouraging customers to go to nearby IHOPs.
