During the current coronavirus pandemic, the Social Security Administration will continue to provide help. While the offices are not providing service to walk-in visitors due to COVID-19, the staff remains ready and able to help by phone with most Social Security business, according to a press release.

Those in need of help can speak with a representative by calling the local Social Security office or the national toll-free number. Find local office phone numbers online by using the Social Security Office Locator at www.ssa.gov/locator.

There are many secure and convenient online services at www.ssa.gov/onlineservices, where you can:

Apply for Retirement, Disability, and Medicare benefits;

Check the status of an application or appeal;

Request a replacement Social Security card (in most areas);

Print a benefit verification letter

Although most business can be done online, officials know that service channel isn’t right for everyone. Residents can still count on the Social Security Administration by phone.

If you have a critical situation that cannot be resolved by phone or online, staff may be able to schedule an in-person appointment.
