East Point City Council candidate LaTonya Martin is settled up with her homeowners association, which sued her in Fulton County Magistrate Court last month over $3,900 in unpaid maintenance fees. Heritage Park at East Point will drop its complaint, association attorney Dana Tucker Davis said.
Martin said she and her father split the sum -- a little over $4,000, including interest, attorneys' fees and court costs. She said she does not believe voters will hold the suit against her.
"My circumstances are no different from my family, friends, neighbors or colleagues' circumstances or anyone else dealing with these difficult economic times," Martin said in an e-mailed statement. "I chose to pay my mortgage, utilities, car payment and insurance first."
Martin is in a three-way race for the Ward D seat, along with Threet Brown and incumbent Clyde Mitchell.
