The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted March 5 to approve a $97,314.20 purchase of four Harley-Davidson motorcycles for the Henry County Police Department’s motorcycle unit.

Also approved was a $9,980 expenditure for a 36-month maintenance plan. All of this money will come from the Federal Seized Funds account.

Officials noted the exceptional versatility of the motorcycle unit in its functions for the police department, especially in the area of traffic law enforcement, where officers can respond more quickly and easily to accident scenes in congested traffic than those in patrol cars. The motorcycle unit also participates regularly in motorcades for dignitaries passing through the county and in leading funeral processions.
