Henry County school board approves $18.5 million in renovations

Renovations are in the works at five Henry County schools.

A bid of $18,567,000 was approved Aug. 14 by the Henry County Board of Education for renovations to a group of schools in the district. The projects are funded by the county’s E-SPLOST. The schools include Luella High, Luella Middle, Luella Elementary, Rocky Creek Elementary and Hampton Middle.

Luella High School will receive a new multipurpose facility a well as a strings room that will be a second band room. The multipurpose room will be similar to a second gym, with a basketball and volleyball court, locker rooms, coaches offices, restrooms and a stage for performances and concerts. The other schools will receive upgrades like new lighting, projectors, floor tiling and paint. Officials said the projects will begin in the next couple of months and be completed in the summer of 2019.
