Gwinnett’s Solid Waste Management division and Water Resources department, along with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, are partnering to host the county’s first household hazardous waste disposal event 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 11 at the Water Resources Central Facility at 684 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett residents are invited to gather their unwanted household hazardous wastes, such as pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, lawn care products and oils, and bring them to this free event to be disposed of properly. The event is limited to Gwinnett residents; proof of residency may be required.

Household hazardous wastes should not be placed in household trash or recycling because they can contaminate waterways and pollute the air. This event promotes environmental safety and gives residents an opportunity to properly dispose of their household hazardous wastes.

Residents can each bring up to five containers of household hazardous wastes. Items such as ammunition, pharmaceuticals, radioactive material and biohazardous/biomedical waste will not be accepted. A complete list of acceptable items is available at www.sustainablegwinnett.com.

Information: 770-822-7141 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
