A Gainesville garbage hauler has taken a novel step in promoting breast cancer awareness.
Red Oak Sanitation has painted one of its 50-ton, fully automated recycling trucks pink, and it plans to paint another three to match, according to spokesman Aron Dunn. The company has about 30,000 customers with recycling service in Gwinnett, north Fulton, Hall and Forsyth counties.
All proceeds from the recycling program will go to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research and awareness, Dunn said. With only one pink truck on the road over the past three weeks, he said, the company has already received "a ton" of calls. Some, he said, were from other businesses that wanted to do the same thing.
"It's who we are," said Red Oak president Stub Luce. "It's important to us to be involved in our community and to do what we can to help out with issues that matter to our customers."
