A Hall County woman was being held on jewelry theft charges Tuesday and authorities want to know if others may have been victims.
Cindy Wingo, 43, is accused of stealing $3,700 in jewelry from the homes of acquaintances during visits.
“She would either be familiar with the family or with a family member and through that assumed trust would gain access to the home,” said Hall County Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks.
“While she was in the home she would ask to use the restroom, and she would disappear to the back of the house,” the sergeant said. “Instead of going to the restroom she was back there committing thefts.”
One theft involved $800 in jewelry stolen from a home in the 4600 block of Old Cornelia Highway. Another theft netted $2,700 in necklaces at a home in the 3300 block of Joe Chandler Road.
Wingo remained in the Hall County jail Tuesday. At a Sept. 9 hearing bond was denied. Another hearing is scheduled in Magistrate Court Sept. 26.
While the police don’t have anything specific, Wilbanks said Wingo may be involved in other jewelry thefts, and police are asking the public to come forward with information by calling 770531-6879.
"Maybe they noticed something missing but didn't think to report it," Wilbanks said, "or maybe thought that since it was just a an old piece of jewelry they didn't need to report it."
