Griffin police are investigating a weekend shooting that left a 63-year-old man dead.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of Crescent Lane found Harry Burkett of Hall County dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Griffin police Capt. Dwayne Jones said a multi-agency search of the area using a helicopter and tracking dogs was unsuccessful in finding the lone suspect, who was wearing a black stocking cap and sunglasses.

Jones said in an e-mail that while investigators have not established a motive for the slaying, “there is no indication that that shooting was gang related.”
