The National Alliance for Youth Sports Wednesday announced the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Department has won a 2012 Excellence in Youth Sports Award.

The county was chosen from among more than 100 youth sports programs. The award recognizes programs that do a superior job of providing diverse, safe activities for children, parents and coaches. The organization cited Gwinnett’s initiatives to promote sportsmanship among youth players and adult volunteers.
