A longstanding Gwinnett County private school has raised $30 million to substantially retool — and expand — its on-campus facilities.

Greater Atlanta Christian School, which has operated on Indian Trail Road in Norcross for nearly half a century, announced the fundraising landmark this week, calling it the largest effort in its history. The money will fund the renovation of six existing facilities and the addition of four brand new buildings.

Some of the work — including doubling the school's visual arts space and building a new environmental learning center — has already been completed, school officials said. Most notable among the improvements still on the way are a "redesign" of the campus' junior high and high school buildings and the conversion of GAC's current chapel building into a new performing arts center.

All construction is expected to be completed by May 2017.

"The campaign is permanently transforming GAC," president David Fincher said in a news release.
