Gwinnett police identify body found at apartment complex
Gwinnett police have identified the man found shot to death in an apartment complex as 19-year-old Deonte Moore of Norcross.
Moore's body was found Friday morning.
Around 10 a.m., a maintenance worker discovered the body of a young black male in some bushes in the Bridgewater Apartment complex.
Investigators believe the man was shot several times, police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly said.
His body was discovered adjacent to an apartment building.
Gunshots were heard Thursday night between 8 and 9 p.m., witnesses told police.
"My son told me he heard one gunshot" around the same time, resident Ernest Adams told the AJC.
Kelly said police received no reports of shooting Thursday night but said the gunshots were likely related to the man's death.
"It appears to be consistent with the victim's apparent time of death," Kelly said.
Police detained two men and a woman shortly after arriving on the scene but later released them as witnesses.
"The individuals were reported leaving the area where the body was located," Kelly said. "They were in the process of trying to locate a relative or friend."
Police are awaiting the medical examiner's determination that the shooting was a homicide.
It's too soon to determine a motive, but because it was still light out when the gunfire was heard, Kelly said investigators believe someone might have seen what happened.
Bridgewater, located on Satellite Boulevard near Duluth, is the same apartment complex where police and federal agents captured Brian Nichols after his escape from a Fulton County courtroom in March 2005. Four people were killed before Nichols was arrested.
Anyone with information about Friday's incident is asked to call Gwinnett County Police homicide detectives at 770-513-5300.
