Gwinnett County recently opened a new addition to a popular local park.

The improvements were made at a 2.3-acre “neighborhood park” across the street from Lawrenceville’s Club Drive Park.

The expansion project included a new parking lot and half-acre lawn with a “paved walking loop,” as well as swing sets, bike racks and a picnic shelter with tables and grill, officials said. A restroom facility was also added.

“A new boardwalk aligns with an existing pedestrian crossing on Club Drive, taking pedestrians to the walking loop from the Club Drive sidewalk,” county officials said in a news release. “The site also serves as a trailhead for a planned future greenway south along Sweetwater Creek.”

The project was paid for by proceeds of the 2014 special purpose local option sales tax.
