Rejoice, Gwinnett County: You're getting a new dine-in movie theater. And getting it real soon.

Ovation 11 — a 55,000-square-foot, full-food-menu-and-full-bar concept from Carmike Cinemas — has been under construction for many months at the Snellville Exchange retail center on Scenic Highway, a stone's throw north of the popular Shoppes at Webb Gin.

A spokeswoman said earlier this year that officials hoped to open the theater in November.

That's no longer the case. But it's not far off, either.

An official grand opening will be held Dec. 9, the same spokeswoman said this week — and a soft opening (with reduced ticket prices) is scheduled to begin Dec. 2.

Few other details were immediately available.

And while a swanky new theater (with booze!) is plenty for locals to get excited about, it's just one of several projects under construction or recently opened in the area near the nexus of Snellville and Lawrenceville:

The city of Snellville is also in the process of dreaming up a decidedly less suburban development -- a "city market" inspired by the success of intown Atlanta centers like Krog Street Market.
