Gwinnett native Ragan Smith did not make the United States' Olympic gymnastics team — but her dream is still alive, at least in part.

Following the weekend's trials in San Jose, California, Smith — a 15-year-old with ties to Snellville and Dacula who now lives in Texas — was named one of three alternates for the Olympic team that includes heavy hitters like Gaby Douglas, Simone Biles and Aly Raisman.

If any of the five members of the team are unable to compete in Brazil next month, Smith could get the call.
