A Snellville man was in custody Wednesday, accused of 15 armed robberies across Gwinnett County, including one this week that netted him $18,000, police said.
Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said Derrick Kingsley Cage, 28, is responsible for robberies that extend to Nov. 30, 2011, and include four holdups in Norcross, Lawrenceville and Lilburn, and the remainder in unincorporated Gwinnett County.
No one was injured in the holdups, according to Smith. He said Cage was not rough when he started his alleged crime spree, but in later holdups he “pushed people around.” Police considered him armed and dangerous.
The targets included prepaid cell phone stores, appliance stores, a tobacco shop and a Days Inn. The suspect stole only cash, police said, usually getting between $400 and $1,000 until he held up a check cashing office earlier this week on Jimmy Carter Boulevard and got away with $18,000, police said.
Police originally said Cage was responsible for 13 robberies, but they charged him with two additional ones since early January.
On multiple occasions, the man was seen fleeing in a silver Dodge Charger. The car was described as having a 2006 to 2010 body style and a sunroof and stock chrome wheels. Norcross police found the vehicle, which had Michigan tags, on Tuesday night.
Smith said Cage, who moved to the area from Michigan, was arrested at his home Tuesday night without incident. He remained held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
