A gas leak at a construction site temporarily closed part of Scenic Highway in Gwinnett County, fire and rescue officials said.

One lane of Ga. 124 just north of Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville was closed until around 7 p.m. as Gwinnett fire crews investigated, Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

The leak happened around 4:45 p.m. after a construction crew hit a 4-inch high pressure gas line while digging with a bulldozer, Rutledge said.

No one was injured, Rutledge said.

The site was not evacuated, and Rutledge said there were no immediate hazards because the gas vapors were dissipating in the atmosphere. However, the leak did leave a strong odor of gas in the area, he said.
