The Gwinnett crime roundup is a regular look at crime of note in the county. Information is gleaned from arrest warrants, police incident reports and jail records. It consists of allegations only.

A (fake) gun at a Gwinnett County school

On March 15, a student at Suwanee’s Peachtree Ridge High School caused a ruckus by allegedly bringing a fake gun to campus, “causing the response of multiple school police officers and school staff members to spend a significant amount of time searching for a weapon.”

Warrants charging the 17-year-old male student with disruption of a public school, a misdemeanor, were issued the next day.

Unauthorized tipping at Shoney’s

On March 10, charges were filed against a 24-year-old employee of the Shoney’s diner at 5900 Sugarloaf Parkway near Duluth. Warrants accuse the employee of “swiping credit cards that belonged to customers and giving himself large tips.”

He was charged with financial transaction card fraud, a felony. There was no immediate word on how many customers may have been affected.

A strange theft in Lilburn

According to warrants issued March 16, a 21-year-old Duluth man used bolt cutters to cut through the chain link fence at Lilburn’s All Peachtree Towing and Recovery. He then stole the light bars from a pair of trucks and left.

He was charged with two counts of felony theft by taking and one count of criminal trespass.

Assault with a brick

On March 16, a 54-year-old Lawrenceville man got “a masonry brick” from his front yard, broke it in half and approached another man “in an aggressive manor.” He was charged with simple assault by placing another in fear.
