Gwinnett County dog parks will reopen Tuesday, a first step in a plan to open parks that have been closed since late March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The dog parks will reopen at Alexander Park, Graves Park, Harbins Park, J.B. Williams Park, Lenora Park, McDaniel Farm Park, Pinckneyville Park, Rabbit Hill Park, Rock Springs Park, Ronald Reagan Park and Settles Bridge Park.

Residents are still asked to avoid the park if their dogs are sick. The small and large dog park areas will each be limited to 10 people and 10 animals, and people should remain six feet apart.

Residents are also asked not to bring toys or balls to the dog park, and bringing individual water bowls for their dogs to drink out of. Water fountains in the parks will remain closed.

“We want to make sure that we’re reopening our facilities in a way that keeps everyone as safe as possible, and we need all of our visitors to help do that by following the posted guidelines and safety recommendations,” Tina Fleming, director of Community Services, said in a statement.

In addition to leaving toys at home, the county is also urging residents to wear a cloth face covering in public and wash their hands frequently and thoroughly.

Playgrounds and other areas of parks remain closed, while trails, disc golf, fishing areas, horseshoe courts and bocce ball courts have stayed open. The county did not say when other closed areas would be reopened.
