A Gwinnett County police officer was injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night, a Lawrenceville police report says.

Sgt. Denver Brewster was on duty in Lawrenceville on the evening of June 30 when a driver failed to yield while turning left at the intersection of Ga. 316 and Duluth Highway. The driver told Lawrenceville police he thought Brewster was going to make a turn, causing the accident. The driver said the crash was his fault, the police report says.

Brewster had a “visible head injury” when officers arrived and was immediately transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, which is about a block from the crash scene. Brewster is still recovering, but is expected to return to work soon, according to Sgt. Jake Smith, a Gwinnett County police spokesman.

The driver who caused the accident was cited for failure to yield.
