A man remained in  jail Thursday on statutory rape charges after he allegedly enticed a 13-year-old Tennessee girl into traveling to his home in Stone Mountain, according to Gwinnett police.

Roger Dale Adkins Jr. and the victim were found by Gwinnett police at his Major Court residence after police in Ocala, Fla., informed them of the situation.

According to the Ocala Star Banner, Adkins, 39, and the victim have been e-mailing and text-messaging each other since January.

The victim’s mother, who is not being identified, told the paper that they were visiting family in Florida when she found a note from her daughter telling her she’d be back in a week.  The victim had been missing since Friday.

The victim and Adkins met at a Wendy’s along West State Road 40 in Florida before leaving for Stone Mountain in his 2005 Ford Taurus, police said.

Police apprehended Adkins Saturday and transported the victim to her mother in Florida, according to police records obtained by the AJC.

Ocala police issued a warrant for Adkins’ arrest, Sgt. Angie Scroble told the AJC. Ocala police said they plan to charge Adkins with interference with child custody.

Gwinnett police are also charging Adkins with enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Adkins remains in the Gwinnett County jail without bond.
