Want to be part of Lilburn history?

The Gwinnett County city is asking for interested locals to contribute to a time capsule that will be stashed inside the clock tower of its brand new city hall and library complex, which is scheduled to open later this month.

"The contents of the capsule will reflect the accomplishments, traditions, and pastimes of Lilburn residents at this time," city officials said in a news release. "When it is opened in 50 years, it is our hope that future Lilburn residents will be united by a shared sense of community identity.

Donations can be made until an Oct. 29 open house at the new complex, which is going up at 340 Main St.

Acceptable items ("materials that will last") include cotton and polyester; glass, pottery and ceramics; wood; electronics without batteries; and nonferrous metals like gold, brass, copper and stainless steel.

Silk, wool, newspapers and photos are among items that do not last, Lilburn officials said, and are discouraged. Find more details here.

Contributions will be accepted during regular business hours Monday through Friday. They can be made at the existing city hall, located at 76 Main St., until Oct. 14.

After that, they should be dropped off at the new city hall complex.
