Gwinnett commissioners awarded Tuesday a construction contract for another new library — this one in Norcross.

The $12.2 million contract will help build a new Gwinnett County Public Library branch at the corner of Britt Avenue and Buford Highway near downtown Norcross. The city will reimburse the county for a little under half of the contract, which was awarded to Cooper and Company General Contractors, as well as for improvements necessary to nearby roads.

The rest will be paid for by county SPLOST funds, officials said.

The new 22,000-square-foot facility and parking deck will replace the existing Norcross branch, which sits a mile or so west on Buford Highway.

Gwinnett commissioners awarded a similar construction contract for a new Duluth library branch last month. A replacement library is also in the works for Snellville.
