Two people were wounded Wednesday night when gunfire erupted outside a teen party in Clayton County.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. at a shopping center on Tara Road near Jonesboro.
Channel 2 Action News reported that two fights broke out as the dance at a rental party hall was ending.
"The security guard started dispersing them; at that time, some shots were fired up in the air," Clayton police Officer Eddie Soto told Channel 2. A few minutes later, a second fight broke out, with more gunfire.
Two people sustained gunshot wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Channel 2 talked with one of the victims at the scene.
“I was just walking, glancing, looking at the fight, next thing you know, they started shooting,” Charles West said.
West said he was headed for his SUV when he got hit.
“It went in my chest and came out under my armpit,” he said.
Channel 2 reported that the woman who held the teen dance had permits for the event.
