The Cobb Parks Coalition and the Mableton Improvement Coalition are voicing their concerns about no new funding for buying parkland in the proposed 2017 Cobb budget.

In a 2008 referendum, 67 percent of Cobb voters favored the county spending $40 million for green space.

However, none of that money has been spent for new parks.

Both groups are advising attendance at these meetings and early emails to the commissioners to voice support for inclusion of funding for the full $40 million for park purchases.

Two budget hearings for the public will be 9 a.m. Sept. 13 and 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Board of Commissioners Room, second floor, 100 Cherokee St., Marietta.

Email addresses for the commissioners are tlee@CobbCounty.org for Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee, bob.weatherford@CobbCounty.org for Commissioner Bob Weatherford, joann.birrell@CobbCounty.org for Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, lisa.cupid@CobbCounty.org for Commissioner Lisa Cupid and bob.ott@CobbCounty.org for Commissioner Bob Ott.
