Georgia Gwinnett College received approval Monday from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to offer eight new degree programs.

The approved programs are in English, history, math, criminal justice, political science, exercise science, special education and early childhood education.

The new majors will be offered to students in January.

The state Board of Regents, which oversees Georgia's 35 public colleges and universities, approved the programs earlier this year. Georgia Gwinnett also needed approval from SACS, the accreditation agency.

The public four-year college in Lawrenceveille enrolls more than 3,000 students.
