Georgians participating in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) third National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on October 29 turned in 3,794 pounds of unwanted or expired medications for disposal at numerous collection sites throughout the state.

This exceeded the amount collected during the second Take-Back event in April, which was 3,509 pounds.

Congress this year passed legislation that allows the DEA to develop a permanent process for people to safely dispose of prescription drugs. DEA is developing regulations for a permanent solution.
