Three Georgia Tech students were robbed at gunpoint Friday and Saturday in separate incidents, police said.
The Atlanta Police Department believes the robberies, two of which occurred during daylight hours, were committed by the same men, who demanded cell phones in each incident.
"We are aware of these incidents and have increased patrols and drop-ins," APD spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport said Saturday. "We are also working with [the Georgia Tech Police Department] to address these issues. We do believe that these are perpetrated by the same suspects."
The first robbery near campus happened at 5:50 p.m. Friday after a student walking on Tumlin Street near Tenth Street was approached from behind by a man who asked to use his cell phone, Georgia Tech police said in a release. A second man walked up, showed a black handgun and demanded the student's belongings. Police said the men then took the items and ran.
At 10:45 p.m. Friday another student was walking in his driveway in the 1000 block of McMillan Street NW when a light-colored sedan pulled up across the street, police said. Two men got out of the car and one asked to use the student's cell phone. When the student said he did not have one with him, one of the men brandished a handgun and took the student's ID card, bank card and a gold necklace, police said.
A third student had a cell phone snatched from her about 12:45 p.m. Saturday as she was walking on McMillan Street near Calhoun Street, police said. A man with a handgun approached the student from behind, took her phone and ran, police said.
