Georgia Tech students carjacked, robbed at gunpoint early Friday
For the third time in four days, Georgia Tech police early Friday sent out a crime alert after two students were carjacked and robbed at gunpoint in the Home Park neighborhood just north of campus.
Friday's incident happened just after midnight along Lynch Street, a block off campus.
According to the crime alert sent by Tech police, the victim was parking near McMillan Street when he noticed two men standing nearby on the sidewalk.
"As he parked his vehicle, he noticed that one of the males walked away, while the other male stayed," the alert reported. "As the victim exited his vehicle, the male that stayed brandished a handgun and took the victim's vehicle. The victim was instructed to walk away from the area."
As the victim was walking on Lynch Street toward his home, he was approached by his roommate.
"At that time, the second male suspect reappeared and brandished a weapon," according to the alert. "He was joined by the first male suspect and both demanded the two victims' belongings."
Police described both suspects as black, in their early 20s and about 6 feet, 1 inch tall. One was wearing a dark jacket, the other a dark shirt with a white logo on the breast and dark jeans. Both were armed with a handgun.
The stolen car was a gold, four-door Honda Civic, with Georgia tag 8969 ARX.
The carjacking and robbery happened about two blocks from a home where four residents were robbed Wednesday afternoon during a home invasion and three blocks from a house where several Tech students were robbed in a December home invasion.
Early Tuesday, a female student was robbed of about $150 in cash as she walked to her car from the Tech library. While the other incidents happened just off campus, that crime took place near the intersection of Ferst Drive and Cherry Street, in the heart of the Tech campus.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
