A Georgia State University undergraduate student was killed Monday in a multi-vehicle accident in Florida.

James Toles IV, 19, of Savannah, died instantly in the 6 a.m. crash, which occurred on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Toles was a passenger in a Dodge Durango traveling northbound when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete median. Toles and three others in the Durango made it out of the vehicle, but Toles and another passenger were then struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Toles died on impact, according to police, and an 18-year-old male suffered extensive head injuries.

Toles, a 2008 graduate of the Savannah Arts Academy, was a Georgia State student studying communications, according to department chairman David Cheshier.

In an e-mail to students, Cheshier said Toles was a well-liked and successful student, who was involved with the campus television station.
