A Georgia police officer was charged with child molestation Tuesday, said officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Royston police officer Timothy Irwin Lewis, 32, faces one count of child molestation, said GBI spokesman John Bankhead, for alleged inappropriate sexual contact with a minor.
Details of Lewis' actions were not made available, but the incidents did not occur while he was working, Bankhead said in a press release.
Royston Police Chief Donnie Boleman was contacted about the alleged molestation and asked the GBI and Madison County Sheriff's Office for assistance in the investigation.
Lewis was taken into custody at the Royston Police Department without incident.
Royston is located in east Georgia, northeast of Athens.
