The president of Georgia College & State University was selected to be the next chancellor at the University of California Merced campus.
The University of California Board of Regents appointed Dorothy Leland Wednesday. The California native is scheduled to begin July 1.
Leland has served as the president of Georgia College for more than seven years.
The State Board of Regents will form a search committee for her replacement.
