The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to look into an alleged altercation between two Marietta City Council members.
Marietta police Chief Dan Flynn requested the investigation last week, John Bankhead, GBI spokesman, said Tuesday. The GBI cannot comment on the case during the investigation, Bankhead said.
An altercation reportedly occurred between two council members, Anthony Coleman and Annette Lewis, after a Sept. 22 meeting on redistricting. Coleman and Lewis, along with Johnny Sinclair, are on the city council's redistricting committee, which must recommend changes to the current wards in order to comply with federal law.
The altercation allegedly took place in a parking lot after the meeting and reportedly involved physical contact between Lewis and Coleman, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.
The alleged incident was not reported to Marietta police, Officer David Baldwin told the AJC.
Flynn likely asked for the GBI's assistance to avoid a conflict of interest with city government officials, Baldwin said.
