A gas station owner was shot Monday morning during a robbery in DeKalb County.
Shirazali Kassam, 64, was shot at the gas station in the 4200 block of Buford Highway near Dresden Drive, family members and DeKalb County police told Channel 2 Action News.
Kassam was leaving the store when he was approached by an armed man outside and shot, according to police spokeswoman Mekka Parish. Kassam was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
"Apparently the suspect came up and some words were exchanged, and the owner of the establishment was shot in the chest," Sgt. Jim Sheppard told Channel 2.
"At this moment, I just want prayers that's it," the man's son Rahim Kassam told Channel 2. He said he was on his way to his family's gas station when his mother called him about the shooting.
"She just called me that the ambulance is here and he is in good hands, just pray and I will see you at Grady [Memorial Hospital]," he said.
Investigators would not say if the suspect got away with any money, but said he was last seen running from the scene. He was wearing a red baseball cap, black pants and a dark-colored shirt, police told Channel 2.
