A 19-year-old gang member was convicted of murder Friday.

Brandon Lewis was convicted of killing 18-year-old Deonte Hudson in the Bowen Homes housing complex three years ago.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson sentenced Lewis to life in prison.

Lewis was convicted of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after he shot and killed Hudson as he was trying to get into his apartment.

Lewis, a member of the “Young Dangerous Clique” gang, saw Hudson at a store near the Bowen homes housing complex on Nov. 13, 2007, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County District Attorney’s office said. Lewis called and told other gang members to be on the lookout for Hudson so they could rob him, the spokeswoman said.

Lewis approached Hudson and began punching him. Hudson ran away, but Lewis shot him, the spokeswoman said.

Hudson died on his way to the hospital.

Authorities arrested Lewis 10 months later.

A case is still pending against Montrez Huff, who also was involved in the shooting, the spokeswoman said.
