A Fulton County Grand Jury decided Thursday against indicting Kevin Pope, an assistant football coach at Banneker High School who was fired last month after he allegedly pointed a BB gun at a student.
Pope, 36, had been arrested by Fulton County school police May 18 and charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct.
A former teaching assistant, Pope was accused of pointing the gun at a sophomore football player in an effort to encourage the student to make better grades.
The former coach told Channel 2 Action News' Ryan Young on Thursday that he wants his job back.
“I think there is some things I could have done differently, it’s really about my kids doing what they need to do in the classroom as well as on the field,” Pope said.
Pope’s attorney, Phinia Aten, told Channel 2 that District Attorney Paul Howard has the option of presenting the case to a second grand jury, so the case many not be over.
