Early voting for municipal elections in Fulton County begins today.

But for some voters, it’s Election Day, as well.

Polls open today for two runoff races: the Fulton County commission's District 6 seat formerly held by Emma Darnell; and the Atlanta school board District 2 seat vacated by Byron Amos.

The commission race pits former College Park city councilman Joe Carn against former Fulton County Commissioner Gordon Joyner. The winner will hold the seat through the end of 2020 and will represent unincorporated Fulton County, Chattahoochee Hills, Palmetto, Fairburn and Hapeville as well as parts of College Park, South Fulton, Union City, East Point and Atlanta.

Polls will be open in those areas from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Aretta Baldon and Davida Huntley are competing for the central Atlanta school board seat, which was vacated when Amos left to run for Atlanta City Council.

The winner will finish out Amos’ term through 2021 and will join a school board that’s beginning the critical work of hiring a new superintendent.

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in that race.

Early voting for city elections is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at various locations.
