A technical malfunction of a ball machine has forced a re-drawing of the Friday Cash 4 midday drawing, Georgia Lottery officials said.

The Lottery will hold a "bonus Cash 4 drawing" on a date to be announced, officials said.

“We are very serious about the security and integrity of our games,” Lottery President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco said in a statement. “We regret that the technical malfunction occurred, and we believe that giving our players an extra opportunity to win is the fair thing to do.”

During the live drawing, a door on the back of one of the four lottery ball mixing machines popped open, and a ball fell out, Lottery spokeswoman Tandi Reddick told the AJC on Friday afternoon.

Four other balls rolled into the slot as they were supposed to. The winning numbers for the June 3 Cash 4 midday drawing are 8-5-5-7.

"Anyone who had a winning ticket from today can cash in the ticket," even though a machine malfunctioned, Reddick said.

The Lottery said in a statement that it conducts more than 2,700 live drawings each year.  The ball sets for each game are randomly selected and certified by outside auditors. Each draw machine and ball set used is placed through a series of pre-drawing tests to ensure the absolute randomness of the results.

The entire process takes approximately three hours for a drawing that takes less than 60 seconds, the Lottery said.
