The Forsyth County Board of Education has approved a plan to begin the new school year on Aug. 6, with families having the choice of face-to-face instruction at school, or virtual learning at home.

The deadline is Tuesday to register for virtual instruction for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and for special needs pre-kindergarteners: https://bit.ly/2CnC3zI. Registration deadline is July 31 for the Forsyth Virtual Academy for students in middle and high school: https://bit.ly/2ZldqNa.

Because of the COVID-19 situation, students and staff will be expected to wear face masks, when feasible, at school and on buses, the district said. Elementary students will have frequent hand-washing breaks, and hand sanitizers will be placed throughout each building.

To the extent possible, student desks will face the same direction; students at tables will sit on the same side; and students will eat in their classrooms and practice social distancing. Some playground equipment may be off-limits at recess.
