Authorities in Forsyth County have charged the driver of a tractor-trailer with causing a Wednesday morning accident that spilled frozen chicken all over a major thoroughfare.
Robert Eason, 58, of Cleveland, was charged with failure to maintain lane, Forsyth Sheriff's Capt. Tim House said. Eason was traveling east on Ga. 369 during rush hour when his tractor-trailer left the road. He attempted to bring the truck back onto the road, also known as Matt Highway, but he overcorrected, and the vehicle flipped.
The incident happened just west of Doctor Bramblett Road, House said. Traffic was diverted east and west of the road, and House said he notified the county school district around noon that they needed to reroute buses away from that area.
Eason, who was driving the load of chickens for Alabama-based Hunt & Sons, was taken to a local hospital to be examined. He was released soon after, House said.
It took authorities more than six hours to clean up Ga. 369. The road reopened around 4 p.m., House said.
Crews used a tow truck to remove the tractor-trailer and then brought in dump trucks to pick up the frozen chicken that had spilled onto the road, House said. Then the road needed to be washed down, he said.
The wreck was the second in less than a week in which a load of chicken was spilled onto a north Georgia roadway.
Last Thursday, the northbound lanes of I-75 in Gordon County were shut down for several hours after a truck hauling processed chicken crashed, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
