Two Republicans and a lone Democrat qualified for the Nov. 7 special election to fill the vacant Georgia House District 26 seat.

Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections head Barbara Luth said the Democrat who filed was Steve Smith, identified as a retail manager. On the GOP side, Marc Morris, a business owner and Navy veteran and Tina Trent, a political writer and blogger, also qualified. All three live in Forsyth County, the only county in the district.

Luth said absentee voting for the special election begins Oct. 16 and will run for three weeks with one Saturday voting session then ending Nov. 3. The deadline to register to vote in the election is Oct. 10.

The special election became necessary when former Rep. Geoff Duncan resigned earlier this year to run for lieutenant governor.
