Former Solicitor-General Robert James is DeKalb County’s new district attorney.

Election results show James defeated Decatur attorney Constance Pinson Heard by 4,000 votes.

The district attorney seat was vacated in September when Gwen Keyes Fleming resigned to take an administrative position with the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

James, a democrat, was endorsed by the DeKalb Fraternal Order of Police, U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) and several DeKalb County commissioners.
