Former Lilburn Police Chief John Davidson filed an appeal Thursday contesting his dismissal earlier this week. Davidson's attorney, Michael Caldwell, would not disclose details of the appeal, but he said Davidson was disappointed by the city's action and is awaiting word on when a hearing will be scheduled.

"We believe the firing was not justified, and we hope to bring that fact out at the hearing," Caldwell said.

Lilburn City Manager Bill Johnsa announced the dismissal Tuesday without providing a reason. In the interim, Deputy Chief Bruce Hedley will serve as acting police chief. The Lilburn Police Department has 25 full-time sworn officers.

Davidson, 54, had served as chief since 2006.
